I do have to say that the beginning was slow. I cannot begin to express my feelings, but I know this book will stick with me forever. I hated her "not like other girls" and "quirky" (that word makes me cringe every time I see it 🙄) attitude, and also how she just kept acting so weird around Jamie. There were many aspects about her that I didn't like. Maybe it was not what I expected but I am delighted with what has inflicted this book on me.

What I loved: how realistic it felt. Their mothers are best friends forever. Heck, I'll say it anyway... Her choice to rock tiaras at school from freshman year until senior year was a great character choice.

It's a story which deals with issues of friendship, first loves and family in the most raw and intense way I have come across in a long time. I liked that the chapters were short. Her romantic relationship with Jamie was so surface level. The things left unsaid, the memories swirling around them, hope's dashed, future's uncertain.

I just want to scream it from the rooftops. The prose sometimes has it's own jaunty little rhythm, other times passages are so so poignant and heartfelt that my chest constricted. The ending absolutely shattered me. I think everyone who reads this book will just fall madly in love with her.
