Replaced Cv Joints...Won't Go! - Maintenance/Repairs

Passenger side CV axle won't go in. The snap ring is a simple bent spring steel you are correct in assuming you can bend it just right to make it work the problem is doing without reference. I'm in the middle of the woods on a cell phone booster to get minimal internet. Let go of the ebrake so you can rotate the axle.

Cv Axle Not Fully Seated

From my experience, if ring won't go in with three taps of a 3# hammer I take off the snap ring and test the fit without, then I'll swap the used ring on (because it's a known entity). Location: HickiganVehicle: '00 RS/WRX Stg5. I recently bought a new cv axle, steering knuckle, hub, & bearing to install on the passenger side of my 2013 st3, but my friends and I have ran into a small issue during the reassembly. You definitely need a clip but it only needs to hold with enough force to pull the expanding part of the CV apart so if it doesn't tap in with a reasonable amount of force replace the snap ring and try again. What did surprise me is how much room I had with the subframe removed! PORSCHE 911 Targa 1982 The Garage Queen.

Cv Axle Won't Go In

Location: ChicagolandVehicle: 98 Impreza. Turns out the nut was the wrong size. If splines are not lined up exactly then I would have a very difficult time getting it back out. Quote: __________________. Not enough of the threads stick out and so I can't bend the nut properly. Is there a trick to getting it in all the way? I normally undo the part where the strut bolts into the hub and use the whole hub to gently "pop" the axle back into place. V70R drivetrain clanking noise - front CV axles and LCA bushings already replaced. Not unless the suspension was undone, in which case I'm thinking the CV would be the least of my problems.

What Happens When A Cv Axle Fails

If the lock ring is too loose, too large in diameter, it won't function properly and will not shrink down and then pop back out locking the cv axle in, instead it will prevent installation. Problem with this is that since only the very end of the axle spline is engaged in the tranny, the spines may develop a slight twist because of the force of acceleration. This may make it difficult or impossible to reinstall the orginal axle without some spline grinding and possible weakening of the splines. Year and Model: 2004 V70R GT, et al. When you tried to put the trans in "P" and you heard the grinding, that was the output shafts of the trans still turning because there was nothing stopping it meaning that the cv joint/s have come off the splines of the output shaft/s. Keep the CV as straight as possible, get a helper if needed. OK, I just re read your post. I personally like the larger lock rings on the reman axles, you just gotta hit them in harder, but they stay in place a lot better. The other side should rotate. Now when I try to put the axle back into the transmission, I can get it almost all the way in but there is about an 1/8" gap between the axle and the transmission.

Kind of acts like the retaining ring on the end of the inner shaft is not compressing and allowing the axle to seat? I can fix anything usually, as long as I can get apart. Triumph Spitfire 1968 Sold. Video of CV Axle on a different civic: (my nut sticks out and isn't recessed properly like this one). Also, when I tried putting it into the "park" gear, it made a loud, continuous grinding sound, until I turned the car off. Thanks for the help everybody, and although "Uncle Turbo" might have been right about me missing something, backyard mechanics can, and quite often, do have what it takes to get the job done.

Cv Axle Going Bad

I thought it was an issue with it lining up inside the trans but when you turn the rotor the passenger side wheel turns as well. Then you can pull the axle all the way out and then swing the upright in to reinstall the axle. Passenger side went it without any problems and is ready to go. As a registered member, you'll be able to: - Participate in all Tacoma discussion topics. Welcome to Tacoma World! Are you having a hard time getting the circlips on the end of the CV axle to seat, or is it another problem. Have anything that will help me get the axle back into the diff? Could anyone help me figure this out? I agree, local driving for a few days until I'm convinced it's okay. It of course as you said can't come out a the way but there are a couple problems: 1) sealing surface on the CV compromised will allow dif fluid out and dirt in if the cv isn't in all the way.

Cv Axle Wont Go On Strike

Any do I just need to wail on it with a sledge? I pulled it out and messed with it thinking maybe it was aligned weird and somehow made it worse. Yeah, that concerned me too. Hopefully someone with direct experience can chime in. Been thanked: 287 times. Year and Model: 2004 & 2016 XC90.

Luckily my commute to work is about 1 mile. Honestly it was too easy. From underneath I held the inner CV joint in while pushing the hub out, then letting it swing back in bottiming the CV joints to make a light tap. I have just finished putting in a new left side axle seal. I've removed everything including the strut to get a clean clear straight shot to "float" it in. Anyone else have this issue and found a solution? Grasp the inner joint and see if it can be moved back and forth. Last post by khnitz. It goes it so far and no matter how much I turn and twist it for the gear threads to line up it added photos of axle install points. As far as I can tell (without tearing the whole thing down again) both joints are in there pretty well. Chapter/Region: VIC. I imagine I need to turn one of the axles to get the transmission shaft matchup To go into place. The snap ring gives resistance and has to be compressed to go in so some effort has to be used.

I did clean the splines of the axle, but perhaps I should have check for damage.
