Main Leads: Nam Joo Hyuk | Shin Se Kyung | Lim Ju Hwan | Gong Myung | Krystal Jung | Jong Hoon Yoon. I hesitated so much to watch this drama after reading such mean comments. In CEO Shin's arc, the stories improved a bit, so much so that the only reason I continued to see was for him and for Moora and Biryeom, who had more chemistry than the main couple. Bride of the Water God K-drama Review – Fantasy Romance. As for Nam Joo Hyuk, I do admit that he is pretty young at the age of 24, just like Krystal and Gong Myung, but there's a lot of brushing up required if he's gonna take on more lead roles in future. The Bride of the Water God is a modern take on the popular historical fantasy manhwa Bride of the Water God. This is definitely one of the strong points of this drama. Then since he is infamously powerful, he can visit So ah at his will. Thumbs up for Lim Ju Hwan's acting. So naturally, drama ensures.

The Bride Of Habaek Korean Drama Review

While a mortal may envy a god's longevity and never ending lifespan, a god may also envy mortals for being to laugh, cry and going all out for what they believe in. They agree to achieve a proper closure for their feelings toward each other. 1) We can see that there is hierarchy in almost every world/environment, be it the divine or the mortal world. The soundtrack complemented it all well. Habaek is a chic youth with impeccable fashion and flawless hair. Habaek holds unimaginable we only get two glimpses of that power when he saves So-ah's life, twice. To the other gods, he's merely a myth they fear and despise until they come face to face with him and a dangerous game begins. The other characters, however, were quite bland and felt a little bit like stand-in cardboards for Twilight-ish kinda roles, definitely not that appealing. "The Bride of the Water God" had an excellent base story, but then they decided to turn a melodrama with a not-so-lucky ending into a romantic comedy, it just went wrong. It has its funny moments but when it comes to the intensity and engagement of the main leads' acting, something is just missing somehow.

The Bride Of Habaek Review Blog

And her annoying habit of rambling out her self autobiography showed a sad lack of insight for a therapist. My thoughts: An interesting plot, with special characters and references to mental health issues, the series manages to keep the viewer from the very first minutes. Chekhov's gun, anyone? After days and days of thinking about it, I'm finally sitting down to write my thoughts about the much anticipated Kdrama, Bride of the Water God (Habaek), now that it has ended. But the imagery I loved most was from the small amount of time we get to spend in the realm of the gods. I watched the drama for Nam Joo Hyuk but like the cute interactions between Krystal and Gong Myung. For the most part, there was nothing to like about Habaek besides his visuals and comedy. It may be due to the lack of life experiences of having to take on such roles before but he may suit the normal rom-com dramas more than a fantasy rom-com at this point in time. Give it a try, the romance and awesome music might just win you over.

The Bride Of The Habaek

What're you trying to say? There were also some things that were never explained right till the end. I found it sort of torturous though because it reminded me that had the drama stuck to the original webtoon, the whole thing would have been in this gorgeous setting.

The Bride Of Habaek Reviews

The main reasons that attributed to the drama not living up to its hype are: - The scriptwriter made amendments to the story line as it is very similar to Goblin's story, but this intended change may have caused the story to lose its flavour around mid of the drama. However, I do applaud her professionalism to continue filming the drama despite the demise of her grandmother. If you've fallen madly in love with Nam Joo-hyuk and want to see more of him then by all means go ahead. I don't know the names of the others, but the music was lovely. So, idiot me, watched this entire dumb show.

The Bride Of Habaek Review Of Books

It turns out that on the night when So Ah attempted to kill herself, his father as a god's servant was granted a wish, leading him to witness his daughter's suicide attempt. It gets old really soon. There are just people who are born lucky. Let me vent and start with where this drama went wrong. She's also not very happy with her life. I mentioned how the sweet lines are stunning on the heart-fluttering frames, but then it fails to salvage the prevailing problems of the story. But for the most part, I think everyone did a good job. Let me know your thoughts too 🙂. The OST in this drama was normal, none of the songs excelled for me, it suited the mood, but it was no big deal. This duo definitely create some problems for both Habaek and So Ah.

I'm not sure I liked the Greek-inspired costumes that the deities wore in the celestial realm either. Click here for more Kdrama Reviews. The drama includes plenty of humor mostly stemming from Habaek's reactions and his narcissistic attitude. I thought they had a fun bickering chemistry. CEO Shin has a complex but really interesting story. Second, apart from special effects, you need a large cast to cement the show's 'grandness of scale'. So-Ah diverted from the typical candy heroine. I'm watching a fantasy drama because I want to escape from reality and see some magic right? The scenes aren't copied.

Bride Of Habaek Review

The rest of the supporting actors didn't have much to do because of the weak script. Before the series, I read the English translated manga but I was not done with it yet because the translated ones are not finished, but I heard that the Korean version was already done. And I've enjoyed his other works. He is also narcissistic and wants his heavenly throne at all costs. Habaek somehow lost his powers when he descended, so he is going to need a lot of help..... This tells us that no matter how powerful you are in one place, you may just become a nobody in another world.

Even for Im Joo Hwan, their acting was so good that it seemed more like they were the main in this drama. But the hero, branded to be an exceptional deity, is stripped of his powers so that so he can't even dote on the prototype heroine saddled with financial problems. But the love for his cherished woman wins, and he forcedly kisses her to give his grace. I question why they pace back and forth when they can crown Habaek as a King. I didn't feel connected with her character because I think So Ah is very irritable and unwilling to help her patients. Ruse, plot bends, and curves pile up like there is no tomorrow as the story unfolds. I couldn't like him. They dropped things here and there that initially made a splash, and then they let them sink to the bottom, forgotten.

We don't know what happened with most of the characters, and I would have liked a peek at what the days and years post show would look like. I remained steadfast until the closing week, hoping for a glimmer of light that would calm my downcast soul. But this isn't that bad. It's almost ridiculous how the high priest shows up at the end to reveal Habaek fulfilled his (completely bogus) mission to discover the reason for hiding the divine stones in the human world and therefore doesn't need So-ah's wish to return to the heavenly world. After all the hoopla over Habaek and So-ah being separated for all eternity, um, they'll still technically be separated for all eternity? She is drowning in debt and, well.... forget romance! Even after that, she refused to go along with being a "servant" of the gods. I wanted to know more, but the writers would have the characters give some cryptic piece of dialogue and then fail to explain well enough that I felt satisfied as a viewer. But you have a non-human as the lead, so why deprive him of his super powers for so many episodes? Without his powers and with the sole help of his unbearable but also Gods friends, Mura and Biryeom, Habaek must find out where the magic stone he is looking for is before it is too late and lose his throne forever.

She doesn't have the time or energy for that. To be honest, I would probably enjoy watching Nam Joo-hyuk in any show, good or bad:). It's amusing that he calls her his servant, but he's always helping her and protecting her. I think that the show's biggest draw led into some of its biggest missteps. So, the author added, among many (supposedly) funny scenes, some dramatic moments and tried to suggest deeper conflicts relate to the characters. In fact, he rocks his image in the Water World much more than his modern outfits.

It was rare to catch the feeling the director was trying to project for instance every time Yoon So Ah reached out to grasp Habaek's shirt or the aggression between various characters. Yes, the comedy was funny and the romance between the leads was important but neither shined. The drama had no direction whatsoever, the budget limits were glaringly obvious and even the specimen that is Nam Joo-hyuk couldn't save it, despite his adorable presence. But as the drama progressed the writers simply abandoned the initial premise and it started to be a bit difficult to keep up with what was happening, leaving to the very end to really solve the loose endings. Unbeknownst to So-ah, things are even worse: Her family is sworn to serve the heavenly realms whenever needed. The story barely made any sense and even when it did, it left you wondering if perhaps they wrote a little bit of the script and then realized how many plot holes it has and then added onto it, which made it very weirdly paced and mostly mellowed out and too chill for what this was originally supposed to be.
