I also enjoyed the family dynamics of this large family, with the aunts meddling and the lovely m/m romance between the two gay uncles, among other elements.

It was sweet, adorable, full of magic and delicious recipes that could give you love, tenderness, or courage, depending on what you need the most in your life. "Vanessa Yu's Magical Paris Tea Shop" is the second book I've read by Roselle Kim, the first being "Natalie Tan's Book of Luck & Fortune" - which I absolutely adored. This is amazing way the escape from the reality and let your minds get a free ticket to a colorful, entertaining, romantic and magical journey! It moved at a nice pace, feeling more or less organic. Lim writes about mother-daughter relationships, and while Vanessa and Evelyn aren't mother and daughter, they did feel at times. 🌼 Main Character:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. By MaBiche on 03-26-21. The relationship between Vanessa and her aunt Evelyn was the clear star of the book. It's called The Dellawisp and it's named after the tiny turquoise birds who, alongside its human tenants, inhabit an air of magical secrecy. The older of her two daughters, Zadie, should have seen it coming, because she can literally see things coming. Like anyone with some sort of magic, she doesn't want it at all.

Lim flexes her descriptive powers in her evocative (if perhaps excessively detailed) portrait of Paris and its many artistic and culinary attractions. The family dynamics and journey of self-discovery were endearing, but at the end of the day Vanessa Yu did not have as much of an emotional impact on me as Natalie Tan's Book of Luck and Fortune. I enjoyed her aunt's storyline plus love. In fact her whole family loves to eat and this book had me craving everything from Peking duck to sweet crepes and prosciutto pizza. They are more perfunctory than developed, with Vanessa unconsciously emulating her mother as she bulldozes into others' lives for their own good, even though (like Vanessa with her mother) no one wants her interference. 1 person found this helpful. But the apothecary's fate is jeopardized when her newest patron, a precocious 12-year-old, makes a fatal mistake, sparking a string of consequences that echo through the centuries. I hasten to add that Vanessa and Evelyn have an absolutely wonderful extended family, it's just that Evelyn doesn't want the same enmeshed lifestyle which all of them share. Narrated by: Abby Craden.
