Bleed from Within are about as close as one reasonably gets to being a household name while championing a relatively niche genre, and they do it brilliantly. The biggest surprise comes in the form of Flesh and Stone, which also shows a few gothic tendencies and epic moments and could certainly be filed in the Symphonic Black Metal cabinet. The music is fast, frenetic and furious, with the guitar work of Craig Gowans and Steven Jones and the bass precision of Davie Provan adding layers of thickness to proceedings that would be hard to walk around in.

In fact, so far it seems the guitars are leading every sonic assault, dictating terms and rallying the troops with a steadfast precision. This one is even more imposing than Shapeshifter with moments of light and shade that blend seamlessly. Of course, its no use doing something if the quality isn't there and, fortunately, Era has quality in spades. Bleed from Within effortlessly makes great use of syncopation to make the chopped-up breakdown feel that much more intense—not to mention the way hair-raising dissonance meshes with melodious texture to drive home a austere atmosphere. It all comes together on opener "I Am Damnation". There's even a final foray of shreddy goodness built into the final breakdown.

Maybe we consider metal to be the deity in question, and Bleed from Within are the shrine, an impeccable dedication to all things truly metal. This UK outfit has been a front-runner in the modern melodic metalcore scene since the last half of the 2010s, since their 2018 album, Era, gained attention from both the metal press and metalcore fans online. Killing Time reverts to the industrial side of metal, brought to life by a mass of guitar riffs and solid drum patterns, before vocals assume control, and once more we are off into the depths of battle.

Doing Good in Our Neighborhood. To rate, slide your finger across the stars from left to right. An excellent production job means that every single note, every single riff and extravagant sweep hits with full force. 2021 saw the band dominate the UK live scene, selling out their largest ever headline tour in November, capturing hearts as support on Bullet For My Valentine's arena tour (several critics stating they shone brightest on the line-up), slaying a Lamb Of God livestream support slot, alongside blazing performances at Download Festival + Bloodstock Festival. It's still Bleed from Within, and it still deploys red-meat metal hooks with a consistency that wouldn't be out of place on a Lamb of God record it's simply that the engine for these hooks has evolved. Levitate shifts focus quickly, a softer, more ambient intro awash with tempered vocals that are soon smothered as Kennedy screams the serenity into the abyss. Take the rage-fuelled metalcore of Parkway Drive and add the dark melodic sensibilities of At the Gates, and you got Bleed from Within's latest effort: Shrine. Such was the ferocity of their Bloodstock show and the (then) sixteen-year's experience – and let's not forget, this is the band who, in 2018, were informed at short-notice they would be following Suicidal Tendencies on stage – that the Glaswegian crew are sure to have added more cement to their reputation.

Even the acoustic interlude "Skye" feels like it has a place in the place in the proceedings, as it's a solid set-up for Bleed From Within returning to expansive sonics toward the end of "Stand Down. " Trivium have unveiled their upcoming Goblins And Wizards tour – which they promise to be the "best metal show to hit your town this summer". Both styles are employed to generate maximum effect rather than imposed for stabalising reasons, adding an authenticity and clarity to Shrine that sets it apart from many other albums of similar ilk. Rating distribution. From the more brutal and straight-ahead likes of "Sovereign" and "Invisible Enemy" through to the sophisticated blend of anthemic, orchestral pomp and brutal churn that makes "Levitate" sound inexorably destined to be heard in massive arenas, everything has benefitted from the time and space to craft these songs into perfect little snapshots of a band clicking into a higher gear. When it does, just give in to the urge and spin it again. Though the bulk of the track remains rather cut-and-dry rock n roll mayhem, the band shifts into a lofty bridge loaded with triumphant leads and urgent chord progressions. From beginning to end, I was just headbanging to all the songs, and they never got tired. Opening with one of the three singles in I Am Damnation amid a swirling mass of industrial style chantings and whispered vocals, Bleed From Within set the tone for an album with no rules or limitations, bound by nothing except the will of the five band members. Bleed From Within showcases a willingness to do what the song needs, while still pushing themselves as songwriters. Take opener I Am Damnation; on first glance it's the prototypical BLEED FROM WITHIN song in its groove and stomp, though the guitar melody in its intro carries new inflections. While the mix on Fracture felt a bit mellow, almost as if drowning out some of the energy the band clearly possesses, Shrine has a more punchy mix that elevates the already potent, anthemic sound of the band. It all climaxes in what can only be described as a symphonic beatdown, as bottom-heavy guitars commingle with strings and even a distant choral arrangement. The key to Shrine 's success is in its grandiosity and fitting the new elements into the old; it's not entirely seamless, like with Skye or the closing moments of Levitate that fly a little too close to ARCHITECTS territory for comfort, but it's clear this is still very much BLEED FROM WITHIN in their element, with groove aplenty in their melodeath-inflected take on metalcore. It listened as lockdowns tested our resolve, and gave us a reason to get out of our beds in the morning.

I am Damnation and Invisible Enemy are built around a distinctly Nu Metal bounce which, combined with their massive choruses and fat slabs of guitar chug, serve up a real treat. "We all suffer the same, we all suffer the pain". It may be the finest moment in BLEED FROM WITHIN's career to date, although "Stand Down" comes a close second for being so absurdly circle-pit friendly that you may wish to secure your furniture before you listen to it at home. They strive to make every part of this album count, from its orchestral heights to its bestial depths. This is a place for news, reviews, videos and discussion of your favorite metalcore bands. There is a distinctly Parkway Drive sound underscoring the whole of Shrine – but if you're going to be inspired by any one you might as well go with the Gold Standard – but it certainly doesn't detract from the punishing forty-five minutes you spend with Bleed From Within. This track is interesting in that it maintains the underlying cinematic elements that are occasionally allowed to bubble to the surface, offering a uniquely contrasting sound that probably shouldn't work but somehow does.

Every riff is carefully crafted, every breakdown brutalizing and every syllable screamed with boundless passion, making Shrine a truly tremendous offering from a band with a lofty reputation and even higher expectations. Like previously released single, I Am Damnation – which itself dropped in November last year – Levitate shows a band at the top of their game, able to write earworm melodies and carefully arranged orchestration alongside some of the most pummeling riffs in metalcore right now. The violin-led Levitate is another track that revels in the pomp of its regal leads and towering peaks, with ample opportunity given for guitarist Craig Gowans to display his chops. Nuance remains evident on the mid-tempo barn-burner "Invisible Enemy. " Single Stand Down is next, so you should already know all about that before Death Defined rears its morbid head, led by guitar play and a stuttering sense of belonging that keeps a smooth tempo in the opening exchanges. Era is not without issues.

Kennedy has none of this, adding his distinctive vocals to the track and giving it a firmer edge that is still controlled by solid riffs and a clean chorus section that is haphazardly interrupted by cries of anguish. This development of style into Era is probably best typified by the image of a boxer circling their opponent, throwing out the occasional jab, but otherwise retaining an iron defence. Increasing the amount of pitched screams has lent his voice a lot more ability in sustaining more melodic sections of guitar work. All of those interwoven adeptly into a blissful sounding album.
