Tour Highlights
DAY 1, THURSDAY, OCT 26
Fly Delta Airlines from Salt Lake City to Nashville. Stay in
comfort at the fabulous Opryland Hotel - one of America's finest. The hotel
is not always an attraction, but that is not the case at Opryland. You
can meander through acres of gardens under glass at the Opryland Hotel
Conservatory. Enjoy terraces, statuary, ravines, coves, a waterfall and
sculpture garden, or a boat ride. Delight in beautiful rooms, shopping
and dining.
DAY 2, FRIDAY OCT 25
Savor fine gardens and art at Cheekwood-the Tennessee Botanical
Gardens and Fine Arts Center. Wander through blossom laden fall gardens,
among waterfalls, pools, fountains, statuary, a Japanese Garden, and see
breathtaking views of the rolling Tennessee hills. Orchids, and delightful
Central American displays grace greenhouses and rock gardens. Round out
your tour at The Museum of Art in the Cheek Mansion. This fine example
of Georgian-style architecture was built of limestone quarried from the
property. See the full-size replica of the Parthenon, in Athens, Greece.
It is home to permanent art collections and a 42-foot-high sculpture of
Athena. Nashville is the country music capitol of the world. Round out
the day with a fun filled evening at an American Institution, the Grand
Old Opry.
DAY 3 SATURDAY, OCT 26
Enjoy a delightful morning at the Oprlyand Country Music Museum
seeing the icons in the history of Country Music. Enjoy the elegance of
Southern plantation gardens and the restored mansion at The Hermitage,
home of President and Mrs. Andrew Jackson. Walk under the trees Jackson
planted and browse his gardens as you experience life in the pre-war South.
Enjoy our coach tour of Tennessee hills and Countryside going to Oak Ridge,
Tennessee.
DAY 4 SUNDAY, OCT 27
Delight in a morning of fall colors among 2,500 native and
exotic woody plant specimens at the University of Tennessee Arboretum.
Explore one of the world's largest energy exhibits, The American
Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge Tennessee, home to the Manhattan
Project. This is where the Atomic Bomb was developed in World War II. Enjoy
a hands-on look at energy and science of the atomic age through demonstrations,
interactive exhibits, films and displays Savor rich fall color in comfort
of our splendid motorcoach as we travel through Great Smoky Mountain National
Park.
DAY 5 MONDAY, OCT 28
Spend a delightful day at Biltmore, home to the Vanderbilts
where a thousand workers spent five years building the lovely French Chateau
-- the largest in America. You've seen this mansion on Castles of America,
now enjoy it yourself. You'll love art works of Renoir, Sargent, Whistler,
Durer and others in the mansion's opulence. Relish 25 acres of formal gardens,
English gardens, Italian garden with pools and statuary gardens designed
by Fredrick Law Olmsted.
DAY 6 TUESDAY, OCT 29
Visit one of North America's finest gardens, magnificent Callaway
Gardens, with plantings said to rival the Garden of Eden. Enjoy these
luxurious gardens featured on TV's Victory Gardens. Wander among the rollicking
Giant Insects that whimsically decorate brilliant fall flowers. Enjoy fluttering
color in Callaway's Butterfly house. Finish your day in grand style in
the lush foliage and fall flower show at the John A Sibly Horticultural
Center conservatory.
DAY 7 WEDNESDAY, OCT 30
Enjoy herb, vegetable, Japanese and rose gardens at the Atlanta
Botanical Gardens. See tropical, Mediterranean, desert and endangered plants
at the glass-enclosed Fuqua Conservatory. Take in the expansive relief
carving on the world's largest mass of exposed granite at Stone Mountain
Park. Explore by coach breathtaking scenery, pristine lakes, forestland,
and spectacular flora. For some fun and drama of the Old South, visit the
park's Antebellum Plantation. After a delightful dinner, take "A Tour of
Southern Ghosts" as story tellers in authentic antebellum costumes tell
stories filled with romance of the past. Hear the hilarity of folk tales,
and Civil and Revolutionary War ghosts. Join in as the glow of candlelight
reflects on eerie Southern tales from bygone generations.
DAY 8 THURSDAY OCT 31
See Atlanta on a fabulous Driving Tour. Enjoy a mix of the
Old South, Civil War, and modern-day capital city. See its burgeoning skyline
and treasures. Experience the history of Atlanta, the Civil War, Southern
Folk arts and African-American history at the museums of the Atlanta History
Center. Thirty-three acres of gardens create the setting for the historic
Swan House, a 1928 classically styled mansion and Tullie Smith Farm, an
1845 farmhouse. Relax after a delightful eight days in the South flying
non-stop from Atlanta to Salt Lake.
